Field Day 1

As planned, yesterday 27.06.2010,5 of us met at the Balcescu derelict buildings. We played indoors, and although I took plenty of BB's with me(or so I thought),I somehow managed to borough some from a team mate.It has been a good day to yell and shoot, and I am very pleased.

Now,some considerations I believe to be in order to be remembered by yours truly:

  • plenty BB's - there is nothing more frustrating than ask or beg to load your mags.OK,it's less frustrating than having to yell "dead" due to lack of ammo.
  • goggles - I chose to play with the new ones, the scuba style.Got fogged in a matter of minutes, and no matter what I did(spraying them lenses with some stuff, wiping, etc) the goggles remained fogged for the most part of the day.Nasty affair.Once I got home,I cut some holes round the lenses,on the rubber rim above these.Hope this works.
  • gun - I used it only on single fire mode.Probably due to this, after 2 hrs or so,the trigger ceased on me,blocked all the way.Switching to auto mode and back didn't seem to do the trick. After another 20 mins, the gears inside stopped to work altogether.Team mates were of opinion the battery died on me.However, once I got home, the gun worked fine.Annoying.I shall take it today to Isidor here in Bacau to be looked at and if need be,put back to work safely.
  • one other thing ,re this gun of mine:seems the "safe" position of the fire switch is not true. With the gun in safe mode,it still fires ...
  • and yet another thing ,re gun:the hi-cap worked fine, until some pellet got stuck inside and the gun stopped being fed.But the nasty thing is that the two brand new magazines bought from Isidor managed to raise my blood pressure,i.e. the top plastic plate that holds the feeding nozzle(the part inside the gun)was playing stupid:it got stuck inside the gun,for the plate moves some 2 mm either side of the mag.The insertion of the mag is not smooth as it should be,but to take out the mag and put another one in field conditions is almost impossible, due to this magazine problem. And yeas, the mags are more that a snug fit inside the gun receiver.Takign these out needs three hands,I only have two.1 actually when under fire.
  • lack of silicon lube.Not good.Note to self:BUY SOME,you stingy SOB!!!
  • red dot thingy - not properly aligned with the actual POI.Solve this issue!

Apart from these, all went well.Or as well as it gets, considering the newbie that I am :-).

To each and all that formed the team yesterday, thank you!Looking forth to next session.

Very much so.

Hard times

Looks like everything is conspiring against me taking to the field. No matter what I design to have a day off,I somehow manage to have another problem to solve professionally or worse - personally.

Oh well, perhaps one of these days.Fingers crossed.

PS - I just applied for membership with one of the local teams.Although I know only too well nobody's gonna have a member without proper vetting procedure, seems everyone in that team is adamant I have to pass a few tests and stuff.Geez,it goes without asking...and anyway,I have to check them fellers as well...

Gear is adding up quite nicely.Got me a red dot thingy, looks awesome on my new M4 SIR.This gun looks plainly gorgeous,so why the heck I like my MP40 better ?Weirdo :-)

Mauser C96 leather holster

So this is how the leather holster for Mauser C96 (and subsequent models such the "Bolo") looks like.Probably this portraits the lighter field variant for carrying one in action.Indeed, much more easier to port this on your field gear. However,I would suspect one has to be in easy or none at all constant action, for even with this holster, the gun is not instantly available to the shooter. And even much more so,the carrier would have to do without the benefits (pretty much doubtful) of the extended wooden butt.

Nonetheless,I p**s myself with laughter, when I think what your airsoft team mates would say when they see you geared up with this.Probably more so,if you don a replica of a NKVD commissar, with the leather mid jacket, and obviously a Red Star field cap (think the early "Budionoff"or even better, the Red Army cap model of 1916-1922).

Dear Santa

A preview of my Xmas wish list.Mind you, this year's recession will keep the soot undisturbed inside my chimney:-)).

Nonetheless, take a look at the marvel here...looks like the best designers worked their butts off a round year to come up with this thing.

I would call this the ultimate add to a 1944 French countryside, post D-Day mil-sim.Or Ardennes ,same year, before the heavy snow fall.Oh,well...

Mauser C96 tree family

I feel that somehow my airsoft blog starts to contain more real gun stuff than actual airsoft:-)).My dark side is emerging slowly again, can't help it.

For those interested, here you have the Mauser C96 "Broomhandle" tree.Just click on the pic for a better and much larger picture.

For some reason,I could not find the "Schnellfeuer" variant. However,it can be seen ,if you're using your imagination...or lack thereof:-))

New project May - July 2010

I seem to have some spare time,so I'll start a new project, nothing fancy though...my Mauser C96's wooden butt & holster is long overdue now,errrr...never actually started on it.

This is the feller I need,so I guess I'll be starting off to have this done properly.Well dried ,fiberlong oak or hickory might just do the trick.Obviously carrying it onto the field is out of question, but for a nice display...you get the idea:-)

The pic on the right shows the genuine Mauser C96(possible other model too) field kit,i.e. leather holster and the wooden stock.I am not 100% positive on the rest of the field kit (leather harness used to attach this whole affair on you while in the field),and also I am not clear how the tool box(if there ever was one)looked like ,and if this was also carried in the field attached somehow to the harness/holster.

The only problem may have been arisen by the stock attaching metallic rail, but I'll see to that when it'll come to that part.

Military manuals & literature

Since many would like to peruse some of the real metal versions of whatever they own in airsoft variant (me included!),I have attached some useful links here. These can be found on the right side of the main page.

No interest in showing off, guys, nor do I intend to invent the wheel here...just trying to ease the other fellow curiosity, if he doesn't have the time/will/patience to sift thru www rubbish bin.

Therefore,enjoy:-))...and stay safe out there in the field:-)))))))
